I ended up seeing a band I never thought I would see.
Bob Suren is a bit of a character in Tampa and throughout the rest of Florida. Many have met him and his cool dogs. He used to run the legendary Burrito Records (thank you for my Hated Youth and Belching Penguins material) and cool ass bootleg t-shirt operation. He sold me my S.O.A. shirt for $2 out of a storage unit by the Unit 19. He has probably forgotten both my name and identity several times.
Bob got divorced and relocated to Austin, Texas, where he wrote a book called "Crate Digger", a loose collection of memoirs and anecdotes circling around his life-long obsession with punk rock recordings, from which he eventually liberated himself. It was actually a great read and is highly recommended, considering how many horrible "punk literature" pieces I have read in my lifetime.
Bob fronted Failure Face and Muder-Suicide Pact, who both reunited for live performances at the 305 Fest weekend of 2012. He is still a great front-person and the Failure Face discography remains a wonderful window into a 90's hardcore version of Florida and its many eccentricities.
